I am running for City Commission to bring accountability and representation back to City Hall. I don't approach problems like a politician, but approach them like an engineer. In my line of work, you can’t hide behind bureaucracy, or a three-minute timer. Success is built on collective transparency, ownership, and measurable results. I want to bring that same fact-based approach to our local government.
"I don’t have a personal agenda, nor am I trying to build a political career. I’m not just trying to represent you - I am you.
In recent years, the focus of the City Commission has drifted away from serving residents and local businesses, towards overdevelopment and bureaucratic expansion. Most recently, push for a Tampa-style downtown plan, and yet another hike to the parking budget to compensate for mismanagement. Every neighbor I talk to, is tired of sending a polished message and an empty promise to City Hall. We will take our seats at City Hall together—because that is what home rule truly means.
We will focus on our City Charter again - vital services and neighborhoods. We'll prioritize real-world deficiencies we deal with every day:
"Where did this guy even come from"
Yevgeny (aka "Yev") has spent over a decade building software and leading teams for major technology companies—including Cisco, Salesforce, and various startups. He also manages global, open-source projects within the Apache Software Foundation, and volunteers in the community by helping seniors live in dignity. After living in a dozen cities across the country and around the world, Yevgeny chose to call Sarasota home in 2019. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Arizona State University.
Sarasota has become unaffordable because special interests were allowed to shape growth for years while the needs of working residents were pushed aside. We'll take a pragmatic, multi-pronged approach: create meaningful incentives for actually affordable workforce housing; improve transportation options connecting affordable areas of the county to jobs in the city (e.g south sarasota is a 15 minute commute); steer investment toward neighborhoods that have been largely ignored (why does north city look like it did 20 years ago?). Every Sarasotan deserves Sarasota quality of living and services.
The two most significant issues facing the city are fundamental in nature. The first is our city government diverging from its own City Charter - vital services and home rule. The Commission has become numb to residents' input, and a rubber stamp to a menu of bureaucracy and outsiders. Simple things like parking, sidewalks, and balancing a budget are an afterthought. I will anchor my decisions on accountability to the residents and Charter. The second is a loss of city character. Unchecked development, short time horizon in the commission's vision, and lack of residents engagement (because of feeling ignored not unwilling), has allowed the Sarasota charm to wither away. I will involve, inform, and empower you via technology and outreach.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
